Dr. Raghuram Rajan took over charge as the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on September 5, 2013. Prior to that, he was the Chief Economic Advisor, Ministry of Finance, Government of India and the Eric J. Gleacher Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago’s Booth School.  He was also Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund (2003‐2006). Dr. Rajan had chaired the Indian Government’s Committee on Financial Sector Reforms (2007 2008)

Dr. Rajan has attained his B.Tech (Elec.) degree from IIT, Delhi in 1985, MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad in 1987 and Phd from MIT, US in 1991.  

His work spans a broad range of areas in financial economics, most important to the development of economies worldwide, ranging from the central role of banks in creating liquidity and the role of finance in economic growth to the nature of corporations and their financing.   He co-authored, “Saving Capitalism from the Capitalists” with Luigi Zingales in 2003. He then wrote “Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy,” for which he was awarded the Financial Times Goldman Sachs prize for best business book in 2010.  

Dr. Rajan is a member of the Group of Thirty. He was the President of the American Finance Association in 2011 and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In January 2003, the American Finance Association awarded Dr. Rajan the inaugural Fischer Black Prize for the best finance researcher under the age of 40. The other awards he has received include the global Indian of the year award from NASSCOM in 2011, the Infosys prize for the Economic Sciences in 2012, the Center for Financial Studies-Deutsche Bank Prize for Financial Economics in 2013, and the ‘Central Bank Governor of the Year’ Award by EuroMoney Magazine in 2014. In January 2015, he was named ‘Governor of the Year’ by the Central Banking Publications.

Forbes Asia has included Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya in the elite club of Fifty Most Powerful Business Women in Asia. She has also been included in their list of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women. She featured in the Fortune List of Top 50 globally most powerful women in business and in the Asia-Pacific region she is ranked among the top 5. She is also the only Indian Banker who made it to the list of “The Leading Global Thinkers of 2014” conducted by Foreign Policy magazine of USA which identifies the 100 most important public intellectuals alive and active in public life. She was also listed among the 50 Most Influential list of Bloomberg Markets magazine.

These and many such honors aptly describe Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman, SBI which is India’s Global Banking conglomerate. These laurels however rest lightly on her shoulders. Having taken over as Chairman of SBI in October, 2013, incidentally the 1st woman Chairman of SBI in its over 208 years of history, she has been grappling and resolving issues to lead and transform SBI into a top –notch global institution. Her actions and policies in this direction have made SBI a force to reckon with. She is greatly respected for her frank and open views and in matters of finance and banking her word carries a lot of weight with the government, the regulators and peer bankers. In fact she was the only public sector banker to be hand-picked for the Prime Minister’s delegation to Australia. She is also a member of the Indo US CEO forum which recently interacted with the US President Mr. Barrack Obama and his team. One does not relate a Banker and that too a Public Sector Banker with the term “entrepreneur”. However she has been named the CEO Entrepreneur of the Year by E&Y Entrepreneur of the year Award Juryand “Outstanding Women Business Leader of the Year 2013” by CNBC-TV18, India’s leading business television channel.

She is closely associated with various initiatives in the field of Education, Health and empowering the challenged and differently abled with the aim of integrating them in the society.

Mr. Tripathi has to his credit about 2 decades of professional experience as a consultant. He has assisted numerous public and private sector banking clients as well as non-banking finance institutions in developing and implementing business strategy, evaluating digital opportunity and planning for long term change management. His articles on banking policy and regulation appear frequently in the media.

Mr. Tripathi holds a B Tech. in electrical engineering from IIT Kanpur and an MBA from IIM Calcutta; he was awarded gold medals at both institutions. He was adjudged one of India’s 40 top young leaders by The Economic Times in 2014.

Ms. Debopama Sen joined Citi in 1996, as a Management Associate, and has worked in a number of different areas of the Institutional Clients Group. She started her career as part of the India project team working on the pilot study of the proposed Emerging Local Corporate (ELC) business in 8 countries. She then moved on to various roles in Trade Finance Operations and Cash Management Product Management, part of Citi Transaction Services.

She subsequently moved into the Securities Services business within CTS, and headed Operations and Client Services, and Product Management prior to taking over as the Business Head.

In June 2013, she took over as the Business Head, Treasury and Trade Solutions, for Citi India, leading a team helping Citi’s local and global clients with their Cash Management and Trade Finance needs.

Ms. Sen has been closely associated with market development initiatives in the country. She has served on the advisory committee of CDSL, one of the Central Depositories in India and on SEBI’s Secondary Market Advisory Committee. She is currently on the Board of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the FICCI Capital Markets Committee, 2014. She is a regular public speaker and panelist at industry forums.

She holds a Master's Degree in Management from JBIMS, University of Mumbai and a Bachelor's Degree from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi.

Mr. Kartik Kaushik is Country Business Manager of Citi’s Retail and Commercial Banking businesses in India, covering asset and liability products, which includes branch banking, lending, wealth management, FX, trade services, retail brokerage, mortgages, credit cards, payment products, digital banking and consumer finance.

He has 22 years of experience in a range of industries, including financial services, FMCG, technology and healthcare, spanning various markets in Asia, Europe and the Americas, where he has demonstrated his ability to identify and penetrate new markets and drive consumer behavior, resulting in product innovation, revenue acceleration and business model transformation.

Mr. Kaushik joined Citi in 2010, in New York, to head Global Business Development for the Treasury and Trade Solutions business. He led a team that identified new capabilities, underserved segments and marketplaces, innovative and disruptive trends that included digital, social and technological. In August 2013, he took up the role as E-Business head for the Asia Pacific region, based in Singapore, to lead the digital strategy and build digital capabilities across the region.

Prior to joining Citi, he was the Global President and Partner at Polaris Software. During his stint with Polaris, he also headed their UK and Western Europe businesses and was CEO Americas. He has also spent 10 years in consumer marketing in Unilever and Asian Paints in India.

Mr. Kaushik has served on various boards, including Polaris Software UK and Intellect-SEEC. He is currently on the enabler board of Swift’s innovation arm, INNOTRIBE.

He has a major in Physics from Delhi University, and an MBA in Marketing from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.

Mr. Madhukar R. Umarji is currently a Legal Consultant with the Indian Banks’ Association. His past experience includes being a Legal Adviser of Banks, operational banker and a Central Banker as Executive Director, Department of Non-Banking Supervision, Reserve Bank of India (Sept. 1999 to Nov. 2001). He has been actively involved in the process of financial sector reforms in India and has represented the banking industry on various Committees and Working Groups set up by the Government and RBI, including Dr. J. J. Irani Committee on Reforms in Company Law. He was on the Bankruptcy Law Reforms Committee and also the Task Force for Resolution Corporation. He was involved with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law in preparation of Legislative Guide on Model Law for Secured Transactions and also UNIDROIT in preparation of Model Law on Lease of Movables. The sixth edition of his book on SARFAESI Act has been published last year.

He is a post-graduate in Law from Bombay University

Mr. P.K. Gupta was appointed as Managing Director of the State Bank of India in November 2015. He looks after the areas of Compliance & Risk in the Bank. Prior to this, Mr. Gupta was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the SBI Capital Markets Limited, the investment banking subsidiary of the State Bank of India.

He joined State Bank of India in the year 1982 and has held many important assignments in the bank in India and abroad.

Some of the positions held by him in the past are as Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of SBI, as the Chief General Manager (Global Markets) responsible for the entire treasury functions of the Bank. Mr. Gupta has extensively handled treasury operations in the Bank, both in India and abroad. He was Dy. Chief Executive Officer of the SBI Macquarie Infrastructure Fund, which is a private equity fund promoted by State Bank of India along with Macquarie Bank of Australia and IFC, Washington with a corpus of US Dollar 1.2 billion. He has also been the Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Offshore Banking Unit and the Regional head for the Middle East and North Africa regions.

Mr. Gupta is a past Chairman of Forex Exchange Dealers Association of India (FEDAI). He is also a member of Technical Advisory Committee of RBI on Money Markets.

Mr. Pillai brings over 15 years of rich experience in banking, risk management and usage of analytics and decisioning services to enhance consumer access and experience. Prior to July 2015, he was the Chief Operating Officer for CIBIL and was responsible for bureau operations, new product development as well as the regional president of TransUnion’s business in India. His teams have designed and launched analytical solutions including the first generic scoring models in the market – CIBIL TransUnion Score and the Personal Loan Score – as well as customized decisioning solutions for credit institutions to seamlessly integrate bureau data in their credit decision process. In addition, his team works directly with the financial services and telecommunication industry to design customized analytics and technology solutions to enable profitable growth.

Mr. Pillai came to TransUnion from American Express, where he was a director of collection strategy and a manager in the small business risk management area, both part of the U.S. Risk Management division. He began his career in the banking industry with Banco Popular North America and then with Wachovia Bankcard Services.

He has done his Master’s in economics from the University of Florida.

Mr. Srinivasan Varadarajan is Deputy Managing Director at Axis Bank. He joined the Bank as Executive Director - Corporate Banking in 2009 and was appointed as a Director on the Board in October 2012.

Mr. Varadarajan is responsible for providing strategic direction and day-to-day management of Axis Bank’s corporate business comprising large corporate, mid-corporate, infrastructure, capital markets, treasury and international business as key focus areas. Driving the strategy and products portfolio of the Bank's corporate banking division, he has expanded its business significantly over the past few years.

With more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, he has worked in the areas of corporate banking, investment banking, treasury and foreign exchange management.

Starting his career with ICICI Ltd. in 1990, in its merchant banking division, Mr. Varadarajan was a part of the start-up team of ICICI Securities and Finance Co. Ltd (I-Sec), a joint venture between ICICI and J.P. Morgan, heading the fixed income business. Prior to his career at Axis Bank, he was with J.P.Morgan, India since 1999 and served as their Managing Director and Head of Markets with the dual responsibility of CEO, J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, Mumbai as well as Chairman, J.P. Morgan Securities (I) Pvt. Ltd.

He has served on various Committees of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) such as the Technical Advisory Committee, Committee of Repos and STRIPS, he was previously the Chairman of Fixed Income Money Market and Derivatives Association of India (FIMMDA) and Primary Dealers Association of India (PDAI).

Mrs. Zarin Daruwala was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank India, effective 1 April 2016.

Prior to assuming her current role, she was the President at ICICI Bank responsible for managing the wholesale banking business of the Bank. She joined the ICICI Group in 1989 and has had varied experience of working in several departments such as corporate planning, investment banking and credit.  She has held leadership positions in several areas, including corporate finance and agri-business. In addition to her responsibility as President, Zarin served on the Board of Directors of key ICICI group companies, ICICI Lombard General Insurance and ICICI Securities. In the past, Zarin has also been on the board of JSW Steel for almost eight years.

She was named as the nineteenth most powerful woman in business by Fortune in 2015 and was selected as one of the top 30 most powerful women in Indian business by Business Today 4 times in the past 6 years.  She has also been conferred with the CA Business Achiever award by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
